wind turbine killing bat is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. bat fly with a sence like radar, when we were young we would try shuting them like skeet, with shotgun, you can't hit them they can dodge anything. BATS realy i guess the left will buy in to anything

I don't think bats fly that high to feed, they tend to stay close to the ground when feeding,so hows the turbines going to hurt them.Besides if the bugs are that high the blades will kill the bugs so no great loss for the bats,

We went on a picnic yesterday and I ended up on Cold Knob. Had my camera along so I took some pics to share. I posted them under the Lewisburg section since the Greenbrier Valley section didn't give me an option to upload. I think when they are finished it will be a cool, spectacular site to see and shouldn't affect the wildlife. After all, the deer will find a way to eat on the nice grass that will grow around them. The views are still gorgeous. I didn't mean to go up that far but had a great drive, lots of others up there site seeing and riding 4-wheelers. I was just the only one in a minivan and NOT a 4-wheel drive! Hope those who have never been there or are curious enjoy them.

Destroy the mountain? Westvaco make millions? Where were you when that entire area was clear cut so badly you couldn't find a tree larger than 12" across the stump? Where were you when the mountain was strip mined to the point that only small strips of "undisturbed" land lie between the strip mines? You act as though you are so morally outraged by the fact that wind turbines will soon be seen atop some of those mountain ridges, when in fact you are just spouting rhetoric you robbed from a conversation you overheard. The fact is, many people, many earthy people, hippies if you will, have been clamoring for CLEAN, RENEWABLE energy for years, and now that an attempt is being made to provide some of that energy some of those same people are screaming bloody murder. It's like this, we want it but we don't want it here, we want it in someone else's backyard. And as far as putting them "along the interstate", I say if the wind is there do it. If I could afford it, I would put a turbine on my property, actually, I hope to be able to do so in the future. I guess then, certain people will be trying to prevent that too. Wonder if it will be the same people who are now touting less government interference? Oh, and one more thing. I think this one line from the post quoted says it all "it pisses me off that westvaco will make millions for rent on the land and the windmills will make willions from the goverment and me get nothing."

Hey treehuggers! Do you KNOW how slow those turbines spin?? If a bat is dumb enough to fly into one of the blades at such a slow speed then the damn thing deserves to die for being so stupid!
Geez, people. Find something REAL to bitch about!

I saw the ones up near Black Water Falls. They are so very very huge!! Takes one very long special tractor trailer to haul just one of the propellers. I read that the Wind Turbines where cheaper to build than replace, so when they break down they just put up a new one, instead of repairing the one that broke. Also that they only last a max of 15 years. I'm just wondering if a couple of decades from now if we are going to end up with a bunch of ugly rusty scrape metal on our mountains. Just like to get more of the facts.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Capricorn

You'll have difficulty finding equilibrium in your emotional life at the moment; try to control the impulsive side of your character. At work, your usual powers of intuition will be clouded. Fits of feverishness may bother you and break down your energy. If you can get out into the countryside for a walk, you'll feel much better.
