Freezing drizzle slickens area roads
Vehicles slid off of icy roads in several counties in south-central Kansas today as drizzle froze on roadways, dispatchers across the region said.
A National Weather Service forecaster said it will only get worse as temperatures slowly drop and freezing rain moves into the region.
'We're going to stay this way for a couple days,' said Leon Wasinger, a National Weather Service forecaster in Wichita.
Wasinger said he expects up to a quarter-inch of ice to accumulate by Sunday, and that ice will likely stay around through Monday. Read more

Bluestem vice principal and coach dies of crash injuries
A longtime administrator in the Bluestem school district based in Leon has died of injuries suffered in a Butler County traffic accident.
David Kohls, assistant principal and assistant football coach at Bluestem High School, died Thursday at Wesley Medical Center, the Kansas Highway Patrol said Friday.
Accident investigators said Kohls was southbound on U.S. 77 south of El Dorado when the vehicle he was driving left the road and overturned at 11:23 p.m. Wednesday.
Bluestem superintendent Dennis Engels said word of Kohls' death reached the district Thursday afternoon. Read more
