Full story: Berkshire Eagle

Police are investigating the deaths of two domesticated llamas who were shot by arrows over the weekend -- an act their owner called "brutal and senseless." The animals were found dead with arrows lodged behind their rib cages, and an arrow on the ground nearby, according to Kate Plourd, a Massachusetts environmental police spokeswoman.

So sorry to hear about this. Having recently watched a llama chase a fox from his herd, they are stong, beautiful creatures. Hopefully this was a hunting accident and not a sick individual who couldn't bag a deer and just decided to kill something for sport.

Hunting accidents do not occur between 11PM and 6AM on a Sunday night. The only accident involved here is the person(s) responsible being born in the first place. I hope the charges include felonious animal cruelty. Scumbags who perpetrate this type of crime often will brag about it to their friends, so if you have any scumbag friends, keep your ears open.

Have driven by and seen these animals many times. Always enjoyed watching them and talking about their uses with my family. This was a grotesque act of butchery. The people/person responsible for this are not hunters, but are social misfits. Arrest, conviction and incarceration are a must for these pieces of filth. My sympathies to the owners.

Whoever did it gives hunters a bad name, and they themselves should be arrowed. You will be found.

These people that did this are not hunters. How do i know you ask is because hunters do not do this kind of cruelty. These people give real hunters a bad name and i for one hope they get caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. they are very sick in the head and need to be removed from this earth. They will be out in a tavern and have a few too many and the mouth will overload their a$$ and i hope someone will turn them in.

Anyone who kills defenseless, innocent animals is nothing but a coward. When (not if), but when you are found, God help you. Eye for an Eye. Arror for an Arrow.

I agree. I don't think this was a "hunter" but rather a bad person.

This is why hunters are so reviled by most of society, because they are so indifferent to policing their own and weeding out these sociopaths amongst them. I have a solution: whomever the hunters are, when they're caught, let me have five minutes in a room with them. I would like to introduce them to my Henry Aaron 44. Those who have played baseball know exactly what I'm talking about. It will be a wonderful life lesson for them, albeit a painful one for their shortened life.

I used to stop by with my daughter and the owners always let her pet the llama's and take photo's of them. This is so very sad!

Let me make this perfectly clear, this is no “hunting accident” as hunting is not allowed on Sundays, and no responsible bow hunter/sportsman would participate in an act such as this. Sportsmen have a long history of working with landowners and farmers to help maintain thier property and livestock. As an avid bow hunter myself, it pains me to see this type of blatant irresponsibility and disrespect to the farmer along with her livestock. Individuals like this, blacken the eye of responsible sportsmen like others and myself. As a board member of a fairly large local sportsmen's club I can tell you that my club along with others here in Berkshire County certainly do vette our membership. We also work hard to provide authorities with any and all help needed to bring people like this to justice.

Matty,

This is no hunter, just some coward kid that wanted to kill something. Some sad drunk little boy..... I'm with you on the bat though, I think a corrective measure like that is just what this jerk needs.

This kind of thing does give hunters a bad name - particularly when it happens during bow hunting season. Regarding hunting being illegal on Sundays - you would think most people, including hunters would be aware of that. However, I live next to the State Forest and every year - on Sundays - during shotgun (deer) season, we hear multiple gunshots from inside the Forest (meaning, it's not target practice at someone's home). I have also seen truckloads of guys heading to go hunting at dusk. Not all people who hunt obey the law, unfortunately, and it gives law abiding hunters a bad name.

You're right on target, Mark. The Berkshire County League of Sportsmen is a fine organization that supports safe and legal hunting and fishing, as well as environmental protection. It's hard to imagine that the perpetrators of this cruel act could be considered sportsmen in any sense of the word. I hope they are caught and severely punished. Keep up the good work!

Who would really want to do this to an animal. The person obviously had this planned out and it doesnt sound like a spur of the moment kinda thing.
Very unsettling.I really hope this person gets caught.

yes, not all hunters are irresponsible and those that are involved in or run sportsmens clubs are the ones we need not worry about...so no need to reply defensively to this.

But, they probably were hunters...they have bows/arrows and its hunting season. Just not responsible ones.

Everytime someone is murdered we don't say "those humans, such horrible people"...so I'm not letting this affect my opinion of hunters in general. These were individuals.

Hunters kill illegal animals (my neighbor in another state is a warden..eagles, last year a baby moose...I could go on...these are hunters breaking the law). They hunt from trucks on my property (illegal) and near my house (illegal). They have unregistered bear baits (illegal) and I always, always hear gunshots too late after dusk.

And, just within the legal window they go crazy shooting at anything, which is against their code of ethics. A true hunter does not shoot until confirming the shot first.

I know we need hunting to control population, but I will never like it. That doesn't change what this story is about: a few bad apples, that yes, are also hunters.

This guy or guys will be caught. Someone out there knows a person with a bow and arrow who would be apt to kill an innocent animal just for the fun of it. That trait is hard to conceal.

Let's hope that concerned citizens (with any info) notify the police.

Anyone capable of this horrible act, would think nothing of killing a human being. Let's hope he's found soon!

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Virgo

Unfortunately, this looks like being another difficult day, and, as Mars turns retrograde, certain people are quick to take offence or raise their voices. Make sure you aren't adding to the tension by doing or saying something that's provocative or even downright insulting. If you get involved in a shouting match it will be difficult to stop and you could say some nasty things in the heat of the moment.
