The Mitchell County Historical Society and North Central Kansas Genealogical Society will host a Scandinavia "Bord" Workshop at 2 p.m. July 9 at the Mitchell County Museum, an eighth of a mile south of the junction of Kansas Highway 14 and Kansas Highway 24.

Billed as cowboy boots and country roots, the Lenora Jubilee is this weekend. Started more than 100 years ago, the annual event is expected to expand the small town's population to more than 3,000, said Scott Sproul, president of the Lenora Jubilee Association.

There aren't any talking birds in Timothy Schaffert's engrossing new novel, "The Coffins of Little Hope," but there is a missing girl named Lenore.
