LPD cracks down on student drop-off, pick-up

As many may have noticed while taking their children to school, two new signs have been posted that read "No Loading or Unloading of Students" on Wallace Avenue in Leitchfield. These signs have recently been put into place due to numerous past instances in which children have nearly been struck by vehicles travelling on Wallace Ave., according to Detective Kevin Smith, of the Leitchfield Police Department.

12 indicted in Circuit Court

Two women and 10 men were indicted in Grayson County Circuit Court this month in relation to theft, drug and other charges. - Jeremy Wright, 37, of Kelly Road in Caneyville, was indicted for theft by unlawful taking or disposition of an automobile worth between $500 and $10,000; theft by unlawful taking or disposition of property valued at under $500; criminal mischief in the third degree; and being a persistent felony offender in the first degree.

One injured in Mill St. crash

One individual was injured in a crash in front of Fisher Auto Parts in Leitchfield on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 10. At around 7:48 a.m. on Wednesday, the Leitchfield Police Department and Grayson County Emergency Medical Services were called to a two-vehicle collision in front of Fisher Auto Parts, located at 105 Mill St. According to responding LPD Detective Kevin Smith, a white Ford Ranger made a left turn in front of a grey Chevrolet Equinox, resulting in the crash.

The Grayson County Fairgrounds will be home to the third annual Extreme Youth Rally 3:16 next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 12 - 13. The free two-day event will feature a number of musical groups, speakers and entertainers as well as volleyball and cornhole tournaments and a free meal on Saturday.

Truck crashes through phone pole

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Thursday, Leitchfield Police Department and Grayson County Sheriff's Office personnel responded to the accident near 1384 Anneta Road in Leitchfield. Investigating LPD Patrolman Jeff Helvey said on the scene that, while travelling on Anneta Rd., the driver of the truck, Ernesto Diaz, of New Jersey, lost control of the vehicle and went off the shoulder of the road into a ditch before driving through the pole.
