About 100 acres were burned by a wildfire in Lebec that started Thursday afternoon.

Southern California wildfire mostly contained
A wildfire charred nearly a square mile of steep brush and grassland on Friday, threatening about 50 homes in Southern California, before calm winds and high humidity helped firefighters get a handle on the blaze.
Residents in Digier Canyon had been advised to leave as about 100 firefighters and 10 aircraft battled the wildfire about 65 miles northwest of Los Angeles, Kern County fire Capt. Alex Entenman said.
By Friday evening the homes were no longer threatened and no damage was reported. The fire was 80 percent contained, with full containment expected by early Saturday morning, said county fire inspector Tony Diffenbaugh.
The Caribbean monk seal has become extinct. The sea mammal had long been thought to be extinct, but the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Friday said it was official.

SoCal wildfire that threatened homes is contained
A wildfire that briefly threatened 50 homes in the mountains northwest of Los Angeles pass was contained early Saturday, a fire official said.
The blaze in the Grapevine area along Interstate 5 in the Tehachapi Mountains had charred about 500 acres _ less than a square mile _ of grass and brush by the time it was declared surrounded.
'It's not even putting up any smoke this morning,' Kern County fire Inspector Tony Diffenbaugh said.
The fire broke out Friday morning.
Residents of about 50 homes in Digier Canyon were advised to leave but the threat ended and the fire basically had stopped growing by Friday evening.
