Sheriff speaks on Marijuana Law, Raid Rumors in Laytonville

Sunday, in Laytonville, the Long Valley Garden Club hosted one of those only in Mendocino events, an occasion for marijuana growers to pepper Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman, with questions about what the laws governing marijuana are, and to criticize how those laws are enforced. The sheriff, out of uniform, and looking relaxed in khakis and boating shoes, did his best to answer the questions, which revolved around disagreements on who should be raided and what the just cause for raids might be; along with fears of vigilantism and concerns about other unorthodox practices surrounding a few recent pot raids.

Laytonville fire: Staff decreased to 823

In a update Tuesday, Cal Fire reported the Wilderness Lodge Complex fire near Laytonville is 85 percent contained, and 12,535 acres have been burned since it started July 30. Total fire personal has also been cut to 823, the lowest in weeks.
