The local pet rescue group, Bradford Paws, is in the start-up stages of having a local pet food bank for helping out those in need. Due to current economic conditions, Bradford Paws is wanting to help out those in need who have pets they want to keep, but are struggling financially to keep. The following items are being sought for donation: Adult dog food - dry/canned Puppy food - dry/canned Cat/Kitten food - dry/canned Horse feed Treats So far, two local businesses have stepped forward to be drop-off points for donated food. Bradford County Paws, pet rescue group, will be holding a dog washing fundraiser on July 11th from 10am til 5pm. The event will be held at Katie Sue's Clip & Dip located at 18536 US 301 North (next to Smith Brother's Body Shop). A man known as a oeHappy Jacka knocked on the door of a Lawtey, Fla. residence Wednesday night and attacked a male homeowner with a rake.

A 16-YEAR-OLD GIRL SAID A "CRAZY" MAN HELD HER AGAINST HER WILL FROM TUESDAY UNTIL SUNDAY, sexually assaulting and pistol-whipping her and threatening to shoot her near the city's water plant at 1109 Banyan Blvd., the girl told police.

The Lawtey Recreation Department is having a big yard sale event on Thursday May 7 - Saturday, May 9! From 8am - 2pm. Be sure to stop by on Saturday, May 9th as they ill be having a Crab Boil with dinners being sold for $8.00 each. Proceeds from this event will benefit future recreation events. The dinners will include crab, sausage, corn-on-the-cob, boiled potato and boiled eggs. Come by, grab a dinner and browse the wares of the yard sale.

A man from Jacksonville is dead following a crash on Highway 301. The Florida Highway Patrol says Jess Delossantos Deocampo, 48, was southbound near Lawtey Monday afternoon around 5 when he lost control of his SUV.

A Jacksonville man was killed in a single vehicle crash in Bradford County about 5:15 p.m. Monday.

The City of Lawtey's Recreation Department is currently seeking donations to offer for sale at an upcoming city yard sale. Proceeds from this yard sale will go towards future recreation events. The Lawtey Recreation Departments provides various functions for the children in the local area throughout the year. Most of the funding for these events is provided by donations and money raised during fund-raisers such as the upcoming yard sale. The dates for the yard sale have been set for May 6, 7, and 8th! On Monday, January 5th, the Lawtey City Council made its annual city department appointments to each of the council members. For 2009, Lawtey Mayor will again be, Jimmie Scott, Vice Mayor/Water & Sewer Dept will be Wayne Massey. Jeanette Phillips has moved back over the recreation Dept and Carlton Jones handles the Lawtey Fire Dept. George Shuford remains over Streets & Sanitation. On Monday, January 5th at 7pm, the Lawtey City Council will reappoint the council members to the various city departments. Each year, the Lawtey City Council changes the appointments of each department of the city. The council votes on which council members will run each department for the year. Be sure to attend this meeting to be up-to-date on which of your council members is in charge of each city department. About 100 elementary school age children were invited to the Fourth Annual Shop With a Cop in Starke Wednesday morning.

The 2008 Lawtey Christmas Parade is scheduled for 9am on Saturday, December 20th. Immediately following the parade will be the Lawtey Recreation Dept sponsored Lawtey Christmas Party. The Christmas party will be held at the Lawtey School cafeteria, and will last from after the parade til about 1pm.
