Rain-slicked roads may be to blame for a Collin County accident that killed three people and sent three others to the hospital.

A violent accident in Collin County claimed the lives of three people from one family Friday morning.

Three people are dead and three others are hurt after a head-on collision between a sport-utility vehicle and a minivan on a rain-slick north Texas highway.

Collin County - At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, August 29, TFS resources were requested to assist local fire departments with this fire located at N 33 07.471 W96 29.379 approximately .5 miles SE of Culleoka, Texas, off 380/CR745 . This fire is 2 acres and was 100% contained at 6:49 p.m. Two homes were lost and 5 additonal homes were threatened and saved.

Invasive zebra mussels have been confirmed to have spread from Lake Texoma into the head waters of Lake Lavon, and experts fear they could eventually spread throughout the Red River and Trinity River watersheds.

"Zebra mussels have the potential to be an even greater threat to Texas freshwater resources than invasive aquatic plans, such as giant salvinia, and toxic organisms, such as golden alga," said Phil Durocher, director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Inland Fisheries Division.

For a tiny critter, the zebra mussel can cause huge problems. The fingernail-sized bivalves, new to these parts, have taken up residence in Lake Texoma and likely moved south into Lavon Lake, according to state officials.
