A standing-room-only crowd jammed Wylie City Hall Wednesday, Oct. 7, to protest a bridge that would span Lake Lavon, connecting the eastern shores of the lake with the western side.

Collin County wants to build a bridge across Lake Lavon . And that's steamed up a lot of residents.

Plans for a six-lane bridge over the southern end of Lake Lavon will be debated at a public hearing in Wylie tonight.

The Observer has been following the county's progress towards constructing a controversial bridge over Lake Lavon that will connect Lucas to the eastern shore of the lake and will, if built, provide a route via an expanded Parker Road from Plano to the eastern Outer Loop.

Collin County - At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, August 29, TFS resources were requested to assist local fire departments with this fire located at N 33 07.471 W96 29.379 approximately .5 miles SE of Culleoka, Texas, off 380/CR745 . Invasive zebra mussels have been confirmed to have spread from Lake Texoma into the head waters of Lake Lavon, and experts fear they could eventually spread throughout the Red River and Trinity River watersheds.

"Zebra mussels have the potential to be an even greater threat to Texas freshwater resources than invasive aquatic plans, such as giant salvinia, and toxic organisms, such as golden alga," said Phil Durocher, director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Inland Fisheries Division.

For a tiny critter, the zebra mussel can cause huge problems. The fingernail-sized bivalves, new to these parts, have taken up residence in Lake Texoma and likely moved south into Lavon Lake, according to state officials.
