SOUTHFIELD/LATHRUP VILLAGE - The last year has been a struggle for many municipalities as the country continues to weather an economic crisis and its ripple effects.

The Belle Isle Aquarium closed in 2005. Detroit was broke long before the rest of the country caught up, and most of the full-time occupants - of the aquarium, not the city - were sent elsewhere.
