The Morning Call
The massive old Panther Valley Middle School on Bertsch Street in Lansford has the musty, dusty smell of long-unused buildings. It's dim inside, and footsteps echo along the littered hallway.
In what was once a cafeteria, more than a dozen long tables rear up on two legs in a conga line. Old metal filing cabinets huddle in a corner, and three large, commercial copy machines -- their cords laid loosely on their tops -- wait by a wall.
In the hallway, a row of slightly dented, salmon-colored lockers sport a length of masking tape printed with the message ''SOLD -- BREINER.'' Down the hall, a classroom is crammed with rows of child-size desks, their chairs atop of them and legs glistening, as if waiting for the morning school bell to ring.
