A brush fire sparked on Olde Highway 80 in Lakeside on Sunday, along with several other fires across the county.

One person is hospitalized Sunday and several structures and cars were burned in a brush fire near Interstate 8 that was contained an hour later, a Heartland fire dispatcher said.

Power to more than 2,000 customers that went out in a large swath of rural East County shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday had been restored to nearly half of those affected by about 2:30 p.m., SDG&E said.

One person was hospitalized and several structures and cars were burned in a brush fire near Interstate 8 that started about noon and was contained an hour later, a Heartland fire dispatcher said.

One person with critical burns was transported to the UC San Diego hospital, according to Tweets from the fire district.

A nearby home was evacuated as a precaution. In the end, no homes or structures were damaged by the fire, which burned about six acres.

Saturday the San Diego River Park Foundation kicked-off the 10th Annual San Diego River Days with a youth day of service.

An ex-security guard who allegedly lied about getting into an exchange of gunfire while patrolling near Gillespie Field three weeks ago was jailed Friday on suspicion of filing a false police report and other charges.

Lance Wright, 22, was arrested at his Lakeside home and booked on suspicion of felony vandalism, shooting at an unoccupied vehicle and filing the false report, sheriff's Sgt.

The accident happened at 4:15 p.m. Thursday on Winter Gardens Blvd. and Woodside Ave.
