Local driver sets new record
Ryan Cansdale of Laguna Beach took home a victory in the second of two Lucas Oil Late Model Twin races this past weekend at the Irwindale Event Center. With the victory, Cansdale becomes the youngest driver 15 years, 165 days to win a race at the Irwindale track.

Patison Wins 3rd Staight Super Late Models, Partridge, Cansdale Take Twins
Jason Patison drove to his third straight victory in the Pick Your Part Super Late Models and Ryan Partridge and Ryan Cansdale won in Lucas Oil Late Model Twins Saturday night at the Irwindale Event Center. It was the fourth win of the season for Patison of Corona, Calif., and lifted him into a tie for the championship lead with Toni McCray of Highland, Calif., with one race remaining.

The heat wave gripping the Southland will gain strength today amid temperatures in the high 90s and low 100s, sustaining an elevated risk of wildfire and creating severe health risks, especially for the elderly. “An upper level ridge of high pressure will build over the area this weekend, setting the stage for an extended period of heat for Southwestern California,” the National Weather Service said in a statement.

The Centinela Valley school district on Wednesday officially began its national search for a new permanent superintendent to replace Jose Fernandez, who was fired for as-yet-unknown reasons. The district issued a request for proposals for executive search firms to conduct the undertaking, initiating a formal process that marks a significant shift from how the district's chief was selected in the past.
