Definitely ruined a wonderful Volunteer Fire Dept where people would hang out and be neighborly with everyone. What is it now? Looks like a Dentist Office with signs everywhere. What do you expect when you have a neighborhood full of newcomer Yankee’s? You know they know better than anyone else. The funny part is they still call it a “Village”. They ruined the village a few years ago and now it’s just a shopping center with a road through the middle of it. Kind of reminds me of Colington, they really think they have something back there also.

This previously uncontaminated rural natural area was nice years ago, but too much "development"------ too much concrete, asphalt and building, has ruined it.

I moved here by choice last Spring. I am from the South as in South Florida. Most equate that to New York. Not far off the mark. I have met some wonderful people here on the Outer Banks (with one exception)and most come from somewhere else.

The exception is a woman I met from Chesapeake, VA who trashed this area for over an hour saying that she hated it here, that the place is over-run by red necks and there is nothing to do and no place to go. I was stunned.

Mind you I come from South Beach - with great restaurants and night clubs. I left for a reason - because I like it here. I love the natural beauty, the local restaurants, the people I have met and yes I love the pace.

So prejudice my friends comes in many forms. Even from your neighbor from Chesapeake with the lovely southern drawl who thinks they are from "the big city" and hates red necks. To this I say HA! And if I was a rude Southerner from Miami I would have told her to shut up and leave if she didn't like it. Instead I smiled politely and made a mental note to never allow her to waste my time with her kvetching.
