I'm very proud to see that McDowell County is on its way to local control. A lot of much needed changes have been made to improve the quality of education for McDowell County's children. Getting rid of old deteriorating buildings was a major step forward though we all realize that the loss of schools in the communities many times signals the end of once vibrant neighborhoods. Loss of community schools only mirrored the economic realities of McDowell County. It is sad to see the changes in Iaeger, Kimball, Welch and other areas the last 2o years but we owe it to the children remaining to do our best by them to give them every opportunity to succeed. My thanks to all the parents and school personnel who have worked so hard to transform the educational system. I encourage all to continue to give that extra effort after the state returns local control.

Here's to the teachers and staff of McDowell schools for caring enough to put in the extra effort it took to regain control.

Although I am very saddened to hear that the school I graduated from soon will no longer exist I agree that we owe it to our children to give them the best opportunities that we can provide.Let us remember that our children are our future and they'e education is more important than anything that we can give them. I am proud to say that I am priviledged to work in the school system in North Carolina where I reside.I love working with children and knowing that at the end of the day I may have made a difference to help someone better they're future. I wish the future graduates of Ieager the best in everything they do. Good Luck and Best Wishes! Selena Cline Bailey Iaeger High Graduate Class of "82"

I don't know about Big Creek, but Iaeger is falling down. It has been flooded so many times you can smell the mildew when you walk in the door. The people that live in Iaeger don't want their kids to trave Rt. 80 because of the road, but it was OK for our kids to do it.

Bradshaw and Ieager schools were fine with the exception of a few repairs those schools could have been just as good as any others I like the new school but it was money that could have been spent elsewhere more wisely

I agree with you whole heartedly. It was OK for the Bradshaw kids to travel to Iaeger, and nothing was said. But when Iaeger had to travel, the roads are dangerous. That road runs both ways!! The fact of the matter is that there are 2 beautiful new schools in McDowell County. We should all stop complaining about what should have been done with the money, and embrace what was done with the money. It will make it much easier on our kids if we aren't constantly complaining about the Iaeger and Big Creek schools. We should encourage our kids not say it shouldn't have been done.

I think our county B.O.C. father's has not done their job by keeping a handle on business. they haven't did it in the past nor will they in the future.they should have taken care of the minor problems at the school's before they became big ones and done the up grades that our kids needed,we would steel have our two high schools and others

it is nice to see positive responses to forums on this website. the area i am from thinks it is the national enquirer or some other tabloid.
i don't live close to this county so we don't get alot of info about issues, but i agree whole heartedly that the children are our future and we need to see that they receive the best opportunities for education as possible. good luck in your quest to provide this for the children and remember to try and maintain a positive outlook...at school and at home.

Oh really. Thanks for the info. What is your source? I am mainly interested in High Schools in the McDowell Co. area. A young friend of mine is tricking a family member. I thought it sounded funny. Here where I live they would bus the kids to an area that did have room.

You need to realize that it wasn't just BRADSHAW kids that had to ride on crooked and dangerous roads to Iaeger. The kids at Isaban and surrounding areas had to also. Believe me the roads to there are a lot more dangerous than any to BRADSHAW. I am so tired of the Bradshaw people whinning over how bad their kids had it and now their glad to hear the Iaeger people complain. If I lived at Isaban there's no way I would put my kid on the bus for over an hour to go to school. I'd be signing them up at Gilbert.

I agree with you 2. IHS is a dilapidated building. It is filthy. I hope the janitors do better at the new schools. As for Iaeger, we will gladly take your Homecoming and you can have our Fall Festival. As for Isaban, Send em to Gilbert if you don't want your kids to learn too much. IHS and BCHS has better teachers. Our kids on the mtns had to ride just as long to get to IHS. to concerned it will not be another mt view, either. You must be a another whiny Iaeger resident who wants to send their kid to an old dilapidated moldy building because you still live in the past. I want my kid to go to a new school with Heating and AC. Gladly it is in Bradshaw and my kid willbe there in five minutes, while yours rides an hour plus. WAAAAA WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Just goes to show how simple minded you are. If I lived in Isaban I would definetly send my kids to Gilbert. As for the teachers...what teachers are at Iaeger. All the good ones are gone. The ones that are left doesn't care or teach your children any manners or respect for others. Which should of been started at home from their parents.I was in town and atteneded a football game last week and was quit embarrassed of how the High school kids were acting and the language they were shouting. It's not proper for a kid to say "hey what's up M*****F****er" I heard alot of and a lot of other uncalled for language. As for clean, have you been to the fairly new Middle school??? It was nasty a year ago when I went in it. THe floors were filthy! So why do you think things are gonna be so much better because it's at Bradshaw...It's gonna be the same ole lazy staff there running it.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Aries

The prospect of travel really appeals to you today, especially if you don't have any holidays booked for the foreseeable future. So be careful if you're out shopping and you happen to walk past a travel agent's, because almost before you know it you could be sitting in there waving your credit card around and consulting your diary for the best day to take off for the wide blue yonder.
