Officials at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings believe that kids shouldn't be afraid of going to the hospital.

The 11-letter word "narcoleptic" was the deciding factor between the first- and second-place competitors in the oral round of the Adams County Spelling Bee Wednesday.

"I've enjoyed it. I've spent one-third of my life on this board, so I'll find out if there's something else to life after the board.

Carroll Burling of Kenesaw noticed a bump on the side of his nose. "They took a biopsy and finally found out that it was basal cell cancer, which is slow-growing," Burling said.
