KEMP, Texas - The Kaufman county town of Kemp fired its police department last week, and Thursday night tempers flared at a town hall meeting meant to rally support for the laid off officers.

KEMP, Texas - It's like someone yelled "Abandon ship!" in the middle of the shift; lose change, Styrofoam cups, a radar gun, the makings of a police officer's career left in his car.

"We didn't see any of this coming," said Richard Clemmo, who served as the town's chief since October 2007.

Kaufman County Sheriff David Byrnes said the sheriff's department will be responding to calls for the town of 1,100 going forward.

Thomas Michael Green, Sr., 68, a Texas native and career firefighter who served the city of Dallas for over three decades, died April 13 at his home in Kemp, TX following a courageous three-year battle with renal cell carcinoma.
