COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Federal safety inspectors have ordered one of the nation's deepest underground mines closed in northern Idaho following an investigation prompted by a series of accidents that killed two miners over the last year.

New Jersey Mining Company announced today that it has sold its Silver Strand mine, located 30 miles west of Kellogg, Idaho, to Shoshone Silver/Gold Mining Company for $1,000,000. A total of $121,000 was paid in cash at closing and the balance of $879,000 is payable as a 20% net profits royalty.

Viola E. Schad, age 93, of Plainview, died Saturday, Dec. 31, at St. Isidore Health Center of Greenwood Prairie in Plainview.
