Scripps discovery might be early step toward Alzheimer's drug
At the end of Esther Balogh's life, it was clear what Alzheimer's had stolen.
She spent her days at an assisted living facility in Greenacres. Yet Balogh was certain she was in Philadelphia, where she grew up.
'She never seemed to know where she was or what she was doing,' said her daughter, Linda Balogh, of Wellington . 'She didn't really understand there was anything wrong with her.'
Esther Balogh died two years ago at age 87, becoming one of a growing number of Americans claimed by Alzheimer's disease. The only drugs available now attack the symptoms but not the disease.
