The clearing of the waterway under Willow Creek Road and construction of the new bridge that spans it means coho and steelhead could return to this area of Sonoma Coast State Park near Jenner, which was once teeming with salmon.

Slippery, wet roads are believed to have contributed to a flurry of early morning crashes around Sonoma County on Thursday, including several rollover accidents that closed busy roads.

Some may call it puppy love, and others will call it a match made in publicity heaven.

Russian settlers in California called the river that flows through the redwoods of Sonoma County to the Pacific at Jenner "Slavyanka." Today, we know it as the Russian River.
