First of all, let me get the facts straight:
You Say, "Marijuana, according to Oswalt, is a gateway drug to other more serious drugs.". I say: The number one legal drug in the country is alcohol. I would say, alcohol is THE gateway drug. Look at the numbers: Alcohol kills more people every year than a lifetime of use and generations of marijuana smoking. It's in the medical books, YOU CAN NOT O.D. on marijuana...it's just not possible. You Say, "“The poor cancer patient, if they really want it, it’s not hard to find,” said Hunt." I say: What? you want these people buying marijuana on the black market or taking a risk on being sent to prison? Over 800,000 people were arrested last year for marijuana. Not to mention that black market marijuana from Mexico has 'who knows what' and what pesticides are you smoking? You Say:“Marijuana use is prolific in society today, much more prevalent than alcohol use, especially among the younger generation,”... I say; That just proves that regulation of alcohol does work. Kids today in school have easier access to black market marijuana than alcohol. Again, what else is in the black market unregulated marijuana? What are these kids putting in their lungs? You Say:“How many joints can you smoke before you’re impaired?— no one can tell you.” I say: Yes, every person is different and takes in just the "right amount" until personal satisfaction. There is no need to smoke more. Again: you CAN'T OVERDOSE on marijuana. You Say: He said marijuana is a hallucinogenic drug and can lead to erratic behavior that puts others at risk. He mentioned the risk of marijuana use while driving. Please get your facts straight: Marijuana is not a hallucinogenic drug, Marijuana has hallucinogenic properties but is pharmacologically distinct. You Say: He mentioned the risk of marijuana use while driving. I say: There have been actual studies on driving on marijuana and there is no comparison to alcohol. Marijuana is safer than alcohol. In fact, the marijuana user who decides to drive is usually a lot more 'paranoid' and aware...and actually a safer driver. Texting, talking on the cell phone, switching the radio, or picking a french fry off the floor while driving can kill you to!(..and to think people die over a french fry...) You Say: “You might as well throw out the DARE program,” he said, referring to the Drug Abuse Resistance Education effort used in many schools. I do say education is key, but throwing people in jail for a non lethal drug non violent drug is just ignorant. "Just Say No" didn't work, The drug war doesn't work, and "DARE" doesn't work. People will experiment no matter what the drug. Kids in school are not stupid and can see through the lies about marijuana. BTW- Did I forget to mention that studies show that marijuana does NOT have the same addictive effect on the brain than: alcohol, cigaretts, cocaine, or heroin. Sure anything can be considered addictive if someone doesn't want to "give that feeling up". You can smoke marijuana for years, and not do it one day and the worst that can happen is someone gets a little edgy for a couple of days but the body does NOT go through the addictive process like any other drug on the market...including legal pills from you doctor. |
