If the union is not greedy, then why won't they give a little. If the city goes with SO, nobody loses their job, other than maybe the chief. The others get absorbed by S.O.. The only ones that lose are the residents, not citizens of Irwindale.

THE OFFICERS DON'T GET ABSORBED, THEY GO THROUGH A BACKGROUND CHECK AS IF THEY WERE A NEW APPLICANT. THE CHIEF WOULD MAKE A DEAL TO RETAIN SOME RANK AND POSITION WITH LASD

"CYNICAL" is right...all Irwindale officers will have to go through a background investigation. And the Chief would probably get a Captain or Commander position on the Sheriff's Dept.

The background for an officer being abosorbed by LASD is nothing like a new applicant. It's more streamlined. For the most part, everyone is taken. Like stated, the chief would retain some rank. It's better for everyone if they go LASD.

Irwindale Police Department is a small, but great police force. They treat people with respect and they do a great job. I hope they continue with the department.

While they are a smaller agency, they provide better service. Their residents are not just another person in a big city. They take a lot of pride in keeping their city safe and knowing the residents.

ANONYMOUS DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE/SHE IS TALKING ABOUT. THE BACKGROUND FOR AN ABOSROBED OFFICER IS NOT STREAMLINED, ITS ACTUALLY MORE INTENSE THAN A NEW APPPLICANT BECAUSE ALL PERSONELL INFORMATION SUCH AS DISCIPLINE, COMPLAINTS, , DRIVING RECORD, ETC MUST BE SCRUTINIZED TO ACCESS LIABILITY RISK. AND NO, FOR THE MOST PART, NOT EVERYONE IS TAKEN. PROBABLY 25-45 PERCENT OF THE CURRENT STAFF WILL BE TAKEN. ASK FORMER COPTON PD MEMBERS AND HAWAIIAN GARDENS PD MEMBER GOT ABSORBED. BY THE WAY....IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THE CITIZENS IF THEY WENT WITH LASD, BUT THE 5 BLIND MICE CITY COUNCIL WILL LOSE POWER AND CONTROL OVER POLICE SERVICES. FOR THAT REASON THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN

The last poster bunched all 5 council members in one basket. You are incorrect, or are you. The Irwindale police department is corrupt and controlled by corrupt council members. but not all the officers are corrupt and not all the council members are corrupt. The officers that stopped Breceda's live in for driving drunk and in excess of 100 miles an hour, on May 17 2009 and escorted him home with out arrest, are corrupt. The officers that know about it and said or did nothing are corrupt. The chief has to put the corruption jacket on to. The council members that did nothing are also corrupt. Let me ask the residents that think the Irwindale police department does a good job of protecting its citizen's. How does letting a drunk driver that is traveling 100 miles an hour on you city streets protecting you? Contracting with the sheriffs department will save at least 2 million dollars. You will receive better service and you won’t lose the benefits that you are accustom to.
If you keep your police department. You will lose every benefit you have. But wait what about next year, what services will they cut then. I know, you can contract with the L A S D next year. But your perks are gone forever. Wake Up Irwindale.

I don't know what I'm talking about? Cynical, LASD has taken over two dept's in the last eight years. Nearly all employees from both depts were absorbed. LASD is soon to be taking over another large dept very soon. Just about every employee will have a job. All of Compton PD was taken except for a very few employees. Same with Hawaiian Gardens. Some of the Compton PD guys didn't want to go LASD, so they left for other depts.

You're right on one point. It would be better to go LASD. Most city council members like having their own local control of their force though. They do it for the benefit of themselves, not their residents.

It's very simple. LASD provides more service for less.

Mr. Hunley (If thats your true name) You say the entire city of Irwindale is corupt. But then you say not all. make up your mind. What about LAPD Detective being arrested for murder and lets not forget about Sherriff Corona! You dont know what you are talking about. The guy that lives with the Mayor WAS arrested. I know this because he and I go to school together. He told me he was arrested and they took his car away. So as far as your theory of all of Irwindale being corupt, you are sadly mistaken.

To save money, gotta go with LASD. You lose a little in customer service but would you rather pay more in taxes? Not me...but I don't live in Irwindale so don't know if the cops there are worth keeping.

reply to keeping it real I was refering to the city officials and police officers that do nothing about the curruption, They are just as currupt. As far as your statement that Breceda's live in was arrested. I believe You are wrong. Realiable sources has confirmed that he was not arrested. His car was not impounded. Perhaps you should get the facts so you can keep it real. And for your information I post under my real name.

Back to the point The city would benefit greatly from contracting with the L A S D. The annual budget for the Irwindale police department is 6.5 million dollars. Because their are some officers taking home 200,000 dollars a year in salaries. Not only will the L A S D. save the city 2 million dollars, The city will a swat team, helicopter, gang squad, drug squad, forensic, homicide, detectives that will investigate the crimes in this city. Former Mayor Breceda owns a truck storage yard. Over a one year period there were 160 semi trucks stolen from his yard. He has never ask for police patrol or hired a guard. He personally delivered 2 donated city busses to the sister city. But the busses never got there. They ended up in private hands in south gate. A city official named Marcus Breda filed a false document to the A B C to secure a hard liquor license for a local restraunt. He applied for a truck parking license on the same day he voted to restrict any further truck parking businesses. The list of corrupt goes on and on. The city needs the L A S D.
