SILVERADO CANYON >> Day three of the Silverado Fire in eastern Orange County ended with the size of the blaze being downgraded from 1,600 acres to 968 acres, and with fire lines now scratched out around 50 percent of the flames. The Sunday evening assessment from the Cleveland National Forest is based on having more firefighters on the ground to better measure the scope of the fire, Orange County Fire Authority spokesman Bob Poole said.

University of California to Keep Fossil Fuel Investments

The University of California announced a set of climate change initiatives this week to make the system more sustainable , but stopped short of divesting fossil fuel investments from its $91 billion portfolio. While the task force unanimously agreed that climate change is a serious issue that must be addressed, the majority of members were opposed to UC immediately divesting its fossil fuel holdings, which account for about $10 billion in assets.The findings are scheduled for discussion at a meeting today of the UC Board of Regents' Committee on Investments.
