It hasn't been much of a winter in Baker Valley, but the snowpack in the area mountains isn't all that far below average.

A Nevada company thinks high gold prices can help it make money by working over the leavings of a Baker County mining operation from the first half of the 20th century.

A company from Elko, Nev., has been looking into reprocessing Sumpter Dredge tailings in hopes of recovering gold that the hulking machine left when it plied Sumpter Valley from 1913-54.
