Vermont Gov. James Douglas says he's been getting lots of calls from people worried that the state will kill a moose named Pete who was attacked by dogs and nursed back to health by a farmer.

Gov. James Douglas said Tuesday his office has received many calls from people worried that the state Fish & Wildlife Department might kill Pete, a docile moose living on an elk farm in Irasburg, and has asked the department's top official to spare Pete's life if possible.

IRASBURG - An Albany farmer wants the state to spare a yearling bull moose named Pete he nursed back to health that follows him around like a puppy and thinks the farmer is his father - or mother.

Earlier this week we brought you the story of Peter the Moose. He was rescued and raised by a man in Irasburg, but there's a problem; the state of Vermont does not allow people to own wild animals, so Peter the Moose has to go.
