A judge has sentenced an Inman man to 40 years in prison in a shooting that killed one man and wounded a woman.

Spartanburg County sheriff's deputies say a woman shot and wounded her husband as he was attacking their son.

Deputies said they were called to an Inman residence Tuesday night after a domestic dispute led to the wife shooting her husband in self-defense. Dr. Danny Merck and Dr. Kelly Pew, both assistant superintendents in the School District of Pickens County, have been named the finalists for the superintendent.

The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office said 54-year-old Stephen Scott Blackwell died following the crash on SC Highway 11 near the intersection of Foster Road in Inman at 8:44 p.m. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Kevin was born in Spartanburg, SC on September 4, 1963, a son of Nancy E Young, of Brokenbow, NE and Robert R Scales, of Winterville, GA.

Spartanburg County deputies said an Aiken man is now in custody in connection with an August 2011 attempted robbery where one of the suspects was fatally shot.
