Man Fatally Shoots Self While Teaching Girlfriend Lesson on Gun Safety

Accidents happen.. Yesterday, a Sheriff's deputy discharged his pistol inside of the jail. Even a completely safe person can wind up hurt or dead while handling almost any tool.

Unfortunately, gun deaths are loved by the anti-gun crowd. They dance joyfully, while crying crocodile tears, in the blood of innocents. It gives them more "ammo" to use against us.

This is what happens to those who 'think' they know everything. Hubris kills.

We all need to keep our pride in-check and always follow the rules as a habit. There is too much at-stake to take shortcuts or make assumptions. And there's no room for 'attitude' when handling potentially dangerous tools.

I guess the girlfriend learned what NOT to do.

Absolutely amazing! Of all the gun safety courses I've attended/given, I have NEVER seen this method of teaching.

Wow. This guy was an idiot. I don't "do" guns but I do know that loaded or not you NEVER put one up to your head. Was he TRYING to kill himself or was he just plain stupid????? Any "normal" person would never do what this guy did.

I feel sorry for his son, and the family. I've been shooting firearms since I was 7, the Very First Rule: NEVER AIM THE GUN AT ANYONE! I don't believe alcohol{ probably beer, and Busch, or something cheaper, knowing of his Hoosier nature } had too much to do with it. I know he was just plain ignorant and a typical hoosier. I can say this, because I personally know of him. I know his brothers ex wife. She is of mixed black and white blood. She said that he used to call her his brothers N wife. So, clearly he wasn't all there to begin with. He never should have been allowed to even own a gun. I believe in the right to bare arms, but the "barers" need to first qualify, and be mentally stable. Some sort of "testing", and certification should be required, before you can be allowed a gun. I wonder if his poor son had to witness this? Again, I feel sorry for the family, especially his brother, who's a lot different than him.

In America , people who are true to our founding fathers belive in rights over restrictions.

Kinda rough on the instructor's doncha think? LOL.

Re-check your guns; an antigun crusader will sabotage them by placing a bullet in the chamber without you knowing it.

Some of them actually know how to load a gun.

Something here just doesn't smell right. I wonder if they tested the girlfriend's hands for GSR. Sounds like a good excuse for the girlfriend to use if SHE accidently shot the guy.

Things that make you go "hmmmmm".

One should never point a muzzle at a person, unless they intend to shoot that person (self included). Not a very good method of instruction, that's for sure.

Yeah, SURE he did.

I point my gun at my head all the time (everytime I inspect the inside of the barrel.)

How to clean or inspect a gun (and make it safe):

Put the safety on (red means it's off).

Bolt to the rear.

Remove or inspect the magazine (especially a shotgun).

Look into the chamber.

If you do that you can safely suck on the barrel.

The story was not funny. Remember the DEA agent who shot himself in the foot ? It was not funny. Check for sabotage !!

Never point a weapon at something you are not willing to destroy.

Never put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

Know what is in the direction your weapon is pointed and what is beyond your target.

All guns are loaded. Even the ones you know aren't.

As my Drill Sgt. would have said "Until you're ready to kill it, keep your booger hook off the bang button!"
