if Ft Towson and Soper force elections would Hugo get a clue that something is wrong in the district and make changes? Nah

we keep electing the same types to the board of education so why should we expect anything better.

i so agree with you. maybe the other schools do need to get involved. hugo would have to care to get a clue.

i think we need to elect new board members on the next school boad election. but everyone that runs for it is all about the same.

something has to been done. but how do you win against money?

So which of you is going to run in the next school board election? Or perhaps both of you?

So by your logic everyone who is unhappy with the school board should run for election? That would be one heck of a school board election since 80% of the district would be running.

And there is something wrong with that?

The point is that everyone is willing enough to complain and point out the problems, but no one seems willing to do anything about it like run for election or get someone else to run or work to get someone they like elected, etc.

Perhaps when someone complains we should start with the basics: "Did you vote in the last election (for whatever)?" If the answer is no, which it will likely be if you look at the voter turnout in School Board elections, then the obvious next step is "Then what you think or want to complain about doesn't really matter. You are wasting my time."

Next question, obviously, is "How many School Board meetings have you attended to see what is really happening?" The probable answer is "None." I will say no more on that subject.

So we come back to the starting point: "If you don't like the way things are, what are you going to do about it?"

I close with Pogo's immortal line: "We have met the enemy and he is us."

If any of you folks got any chicken sense and wont to run for the school board all you have to do is sign up get your friends to help, start knocking on doors and walking the streets to let the people know you mena business and want to make good changes for the school district. Just takes a little staying power and guts. So sic'em dog.

Alligator, you are so right. the folks do not vote, just complain, do not attend board meetings, or goto PTA, just stay home and lay on the sofa and become a couch potato.

Looks like those folks would get tired of watching repeats of those repeater movies and other repeater programs.

I've attended my share of board meetings, I vote in each election. By gum, I have as much right to gripe as anyone does. Or would you rather us keep our complaints to ourselves so you and your cohorts can continue to run the system into the ground?

annony, reread my comment. Perhaps you will realize I am talking about the majority (regretably) of people who complain. You obviously do not fall into that category from what you say. When I was growing up one of my father's sayings to us kids was "Don't yell until you're bit!", referring of course to dogs. However, it does apply to most of life.

Be that as it may, the final question is still appropriate and I would be interested in your answer. If you don't like the way things are, what do you intend to do about it? Because you can complain all day and it doesn't change a thing. If all you want to do is complain when you see something wrong and are not willing to do anything about it, then you are just as much at fault as those who, in this case, can't be bothered to vote or to attend meetings to learn the facts.

Finally, be careful of accusations like your last one. It really does say more about you than me since what I have been saying should actually be encouraging people to work to make changes. You have no idea what my opinion of the current state of things is, and I have kept it that way for a reason.

So, what do you intend to do about the problems you see?

Why, I'll be voting of course. What about you? Or are you just on here to try and keep discourse about the problem down?
