I think the handler of the dog should be charged for not keeping him in control, and maby the the should be put down for not listening and causing more harm to an innocent kid in need of help. If a civilian dog would have bit a cop it would have been killed, why is their double standards..

You are a piece of work! Maybe you should be put down for not knowing how to spell or speak. The dog attacks based on the handlers demands, if you do not comply with those demands the dog will attack without being told. The cops nor the dog knew at the time that this was one of the kids. Think before you attempt to speak next time idiot.

I wanted to put my heart out to those children involved in this. No child should ever have to go through this. The good lord was looking after you that day, and you all were very strong. I wish you all the best in life.

The other thing I forgot to mention though is I am having a hard time, with the fact that they could not get any help in that time limit....Something is really wrong with that...The children were down in the basement and the shooter was upstairs....Those children felt neglected by the police and they had every right too.I would have felt the same way. The response time for the police to get there was wonderful, but to help was ridiculous...There was none..Nice tax payer money going to waste.

Dumb Handler? This is coming from someone that does not even know the definition of a Police Dog or what one does. If you only knew the story and all the specifics about the incident you would think twice about what you say before you write it. Or, it was the gun man and got to your house and held you or your family hostage!!! Oh, you don't think that way do you!

I completely agree that the response to this situation was poor. After listening to the 911 call, it is obvious that the police should have made an attempt to help by coming in the house. The caller was giving specific information that should have helped the officers get in there to save these kids. Also, it was not dark outside at the time the kids ran out of the house. Police yelled "four friendlies" as the kids were leaving the basement out the window. Some police yelled run and the dog handler said to get down. What direction would you follow if you were running for your life? And after being in the midst of gunfire for 30 minutes, I would think that anyone would RUN AWAY from the house as fast as they could. I think the dog bite was due to improper directions given to the dog (the dog was only doing his job). They knew these kids were in the basement and they came out of a window well... The boy with the dog bite nearly lost his arm because an artery was torn by the dog. It will take a long time for these kids to trust the police again, which is sad. Hopefully someone will apologize to them at some point and explain why they did what they did. I wish for physical and emotional healing for all of the teens involved. It doesn't matter what possible arguement, etc... may have led up to this, the kids did not deserve to endure what happened.

i find it very hard to believe the police did everything they could to protect Zach and his minor friends. according to the 911 call, Zach gave expicit information for the police to interviene. he was on the line for over 22 minutes, begging for help. i feel the police have acted too conservatively. how can we believe they were there to rescue the innocent, rather than protect themselves, while the innocent had to fend for themselves. i believe the entire police dept. should review their actions, and make changes for future armed and possible innocent deaths. i dont know if any of them will ever call the police for safty issues again. its pretty sad how this all played out. i pray for the victems of this crime, including the police's involvement.

[I have experience with Hudson PD they are keystone cops at best--lucky no one, other than the perpetrator, was killed.
