Mellenthiens display first 'Little Free Library' in Fond du Lac
<![CDATA[Lynn and Judy Mellenthien of Fond du Lac have placed a Little Free Library in their front yard at 147 Woodward St. The idea was started by Todd Bol in Hudson, Wis. in 2009, as a tribute to his mother, a former teacher and book lover. Bol had no idea he would launch a worldwide movement. Once the idea caught on, his goal was to have over 2,500 libraries up and running. He reached his goal a year and a half ahead of schedule. Now there are Little Free Libraries in 36 countries and all in 50 states. The concept is simple: take a book, leave a book. There are no due dates, late fees, or library cards and the door to the Little Free Library is open 24 hours a day, every day of the week. The libraries are currently mapped on Google so users can find them easily. As you travel, pull up the site on your computer, www.littlefreeli brary.org, look for a location and pick up a book. While you're out and about in Fond du Lac, why not not stop by 147 Woodward St. and pick up a book! Look for the little red, white and blue one-room schoolhouse box.
