Thrifty Spot store thriving in new location
The shop moved to its new two-story location, a former antiques store, on Buckley Hall Road across the street from a 7-Eleven, a barber shop and a consignment shop, in mid-October. "I don't feel as isolated anymore," said Mathews High School special education teacher Cathy Walker.
The Thrifty Spot is in the Hudgins area of Mathews County is a thrift store operated solely by Mathews High School special-education students and teacher's assistants.
Donk's Theater in Mathews earns national designation
Donk's Theater, the county's signature live entertainment venue, has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
