Northern Shawnee County and southern Jackson County are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 4:15 p.m. The National Weather Service office in Topeka issued the warning at 3:37 p.m., saying Doppler radar indicated a storm system capable of producing quarter-size hail 17 miles northwest of Topeka moving east at 35 mph.

A man is dead after a shooting in Jackson county. Jackson county sheriff Al Dunn says the shooting happened around 9:30 Tuesday morning at 608 McKeage in Hoyt.
