Beech Bend ready for SUPERSTAR finale
After sixteen weeks of competition, Beech Bend Park prepares for the Grand Finale of its "Superstar Talent Show".
The talent showcase, modeled after successful television programs like Nashville Star, American Idol, and America's Got Talent, has run since Memorial day weekend, and eighteen contestants will return to the park September 12th for one last competition to determine who will take home the grand prize, an opportunity to host their own concert at the park's Reagan Amphitheater.
Casey Riggs, of Hardinsburg, KY was the final contestant to advance through the weekly audition process, and will be featured as a guest on the park's media partners radio programs during the week. Riggs' rendition of the Elvis Presley classic "All Shook Up" was good enough to best the field of competitors and earn the Western Kentucky University student a spot in the finals.
"Superstar" is co-produced by the park's Group Ticket Sales coordinator Sherry Harper along with the show's host, DGP Entertainment founder and Kentucky radio personality, David Gary. The concept for the show was put into action when the two met at a local marketing convention earlier this year. Another key member of the production team has been Robin White of the Portland, Tennessee based Disciple Productions who has provided technical support and promotional assistance throughout the season.
Sixteen weekly winners and two "Wild Card" contestants will compete for the grand prize in front of a panel of twelve judges who will each score the contestants on a scale of 1-10 in a variety of categories before offering their criticism and praise of their performances. Beech Bend's celebrity judging panel will include several entertainment industry A&R executives, corporate partners of the park, and recording artists, in addition to a field of journalists and media personalities.
In addition to Riggs, weekly winners of the contest include Kentucky winners Bobby Miller of Lexington, Kenzie Lewis of Hodgenville,Lana McDonald of Bowling Green , Billy DuVall, Jr. of Park City, Brad Collins of Center, Bailey Birge of Glasgow, Bethany Gearlds of Gamaliel, Kyle Whittaker of Morgantown, along with Clinton Spaulding and Allison Bray of Louisville
Collins wins SUPERSTAR Contest
Brad Collins of Center (shown right, with Clay Underwood) is a notch closer to hosting his own show at Beech Bend Park in Bowling Green.
The Hart County singer performed Saturday before a panel of celebrity judges including recording artist Clay Underwood, PCL Music founder Lynne Connelly, and WHSX Radio personality Chris Jessie en route to winning the weekly round of auditions at the theme park's "Superstar" contest.
Collins performed a rendition of the Jason Aldean song "Hick Town" and came away with the top score, meaning he will battle against each of the 16 weekly winners on September 12th to see who will have a chance to win the contest's grand prize, an opportunity to headline a concert at Beech Bend's Reagan Amphitheater.
The aspiring country singer, Collins, was discovered by the show's host while competing in the karaoke competition of the Hart County fair. In total, four contestants from the fair's karaoke contest have become weekly winners of the program.
"There were a lot of good singers at the fair, and this guy came up to me and asked me if I would consider singing at the Beech Bend show" said Collins after the show. "Not only was I able to win, and not only do I get to be on the radio, but I also had an opportunity to take my family to the park and have a great day. I am really excited to come back in a couple weeks for the finals."
Collins was able to come away with a little bit of advice from fellow Hart County native, and independent recording artist Clay Underwood, whose self promoted CD release "New Beginnings and Old Honky Tonks" has found two of its songs in the National top 40.
CLICK STORY HEADLINE FOR FULL STORY"Don't ever let people control what you want to perform" said Underwood, who has encountered his own hurdles and frustrations trying to make it in a tough industry. Underwood also told Collins that "I am not going to lie to you, it is a difficult road. There are tens of thousands of people trying to do what you are doing and they are all really talented people, I wish you the best of luck."
