Hope Mills Police are advising residents to be alert after several sightings of a large bear.

May 29, 2012 -- An investigation is continuing into the actions of a Cumberland County sheriff's deputy who fatally shot a small dog in front of its owner last week, authorities said.

A Fayetteville man and his 17-month-old son were killed Thursday when the car they were in crossed over into oncoming traffic near Hope Mills.

Brenda Walters West, 67, of Lumberton, died on May 6, 2012, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Ernestine Dial, 83, of 5081 Crestline Road, died May 2, 2012, at Southeastern Hospice House.
