Hoover City Council agrees to pay up to $1 million for Galleria Boulevard extension
The Hoover City Council tonight agreed to commit up to $1 million to help pay for the extension of Galleria Boulevard past John Hawkins Parkway to South Lorna Road, also known as Old Montgomery Highway. The total project currently is estimated to cost $7 million to $8 million, but the final cost likely will be higher due to time delays, Hoover Executive Director Allen Pate said.

Some residents of the Lakeview and Paradise Acres communities are opposed to the whole idea of a car dealership next to and behind the Galleria Trace Plaza shopping center.

The city of Hoover won't have a 2015 budget by the beginning of the fiscal year on Oct. 1. Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey said today he likely won't have a budget ready to present to the Hoover City Council until its first meeting in October on Oct. 6, which hopefully would allow the council to pass a budget by Oct. 20. That still is subject to change, however, he said. The City Council on Monday is scheduled to vote on continuing its 2014 budget into 2015 to allow normal operations to continue while the mayor completes his budget proposal.
