Miners, community members and others connected with the state's coal mining industry will gather at Tamarack in Beckley on Thursday, Oct. 2, for the 2014 Miners' Celebration a gala reception and dinner to celebrate the past, present and future of West Virginia's coal mining enterprise. Tickets for the event are now on sale.

The state Parkways Authority has gone outside West Virginia to hire the next executive director for Tamarack. The authority's economic development and tourism committee recommended Jim Browder of Lexington, Kentucky for the job Thursday during a meeting in Charleston.
