Sebelius vetoes coal bill: Governor Says She is Open to Compromise

Legislative leaders seek votes for override
Now what? Making good on her veto promise, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Friday blocked a bill to allow a sizeable expansion of a coal-burning power plant in western Kansas.
The veto sets up a showdown with lawmakers who oppose a regulator's decision last year to reject the project because of concerns about global climate change. Legislative leaders are working to secure the two-thirds majorities needed to override the veto.
That won't be a problem in the Senate, but the House appears to be several votes short. Lawmakers have 30 days to attempt the override. Read more
