In the effort to increase business growth in Polk County, and after hearing from six people who have taken advantage of not having to pay impact fees the last two years, Polk County Commissioners approved an 18-month extension of a moratorium on the fees.

A federal customs agent violated an order of temporary protection for his wife Sunday, hours after he was released from jail after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

An agent with the U.S. Department of Customs and Border Protection was arrested over the weekend, charged with slapping his wife in front of the couple's 13-year-old son.
