Council discusses Phase II renovations
Phase II of Heflin's city-scape project would extend eastward on Ross Street. The Heflin City Council voted this week to give low bidder KBR the job of planning and engineering of Phase II on the downtown city-scape project.
The Cleburne Farmers Market will be open every Tuesday morning beginning July 7 from 6:30 - 9:30 a.m. and every Thursday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. The Farmers Market is located in McIntyre Park across from the Heflin Rec.
Street-scape project halted by bank
Street-scape project sits temporarily idle. In a statement issued this week, Heflin Mayor Anna Berry announced, "We have received word from Gilco Contracting, Inc., the company working on the street-scape project, that they have had their operation halted by their bank." Mayor Berry added, "I have spoken with the president of Gilco, Rodney Camp.

2 lawsuits blame hotel for Legionnaires' disease
OXFORD - Two Jefferson County employees have filed lawsuits claiming they became seriously ill with Legionnaires' disease as a result of using a hot tub at an Oxford hotel.

During the month of June, every presenting volunteer donor at an American Red Cross blood drive or donor center will be entered into a regional drawing for a cruise for two as part of the "Save a Life and Sail the Seas" promotion.
Quick storm topples trees and starts fire
Tree blown over on DHR building in Heflin. A "freak" storm last week brought high winds and plenty of lightning to Heflin, blowing over a large tree onto a new addition to the DHR building while a lightning strike at The Cleburne News's editor's residence on Brockford Road caused a fire to an outside storage building, burning it down.
