Libraries are the backbone of many communities, including Berkeley County. Recent action by the Board of Education, which was partially funding the county's libraries, will drastically affect the efficiency of our county's library.

Paul D. Walls
A 20-year resident of Stonebrook, in Hedgesville, Paul was born July 12, 1958, and was the son of Paul Scott and Geneva Walls, of Van. In addition to his parents, he was survived by his sister, Donna Hartman, of Julian.

Barbara T. Davis, 78, of Hedgesville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at the Jefferson Medical Center in Charles Town.
Hedgesville girls top visiting Spring Mills
The Hedgesville Eagles gained a halftime lead and built on it Tuesday for a 9-3 victory over Spring Mills in Eastern Panhandle Athletic Conference girls soccer to improve to 2-3. The Cardinals had a rough start despite having first possession as the ball was taken quickly under the Eagles wing.

George Blough is no stranger to the high price of cancer, a diagnosis that costs in terms of not only medical care but also quality of life since virtually no one is guaranteed a happy ending. George, a three-time cancer survivor, along with her husband Brooke, has since dedicated much of her free time to not only fighting cancer but also advocating for research funding.

BU rallies for victory over Eagles
The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers' offense intensified with the humidity as Saturday's match against the hosting Hedgesville Eagles wore on. The Eagles carried a 1-0 lead into the halftime, but the Buccaneers scored four unanswered goals in the remaining 40 minutes of play to take the 4-1 victory.

Hedgesville girls sneak past Saints
It didn't take long for the Hedgesville Eagles to attack and provide offensive pressure against the St. James, Maryland, Saints Saturday afternoon. Prior to a half-hour delay in the 20th minute, the Eagles worked fast as the lightning that caused the delay, scoring two goals in the opening 10 minutes of play in a 2-1 victory.
Donations pour in for family after house fire
Residents of Berkeley County are rallying around the family of Byron and Lindsay DeGraw of Hedgesville after their house was destroyed in a fire early Saturday morning. At approximately 2 a.m. Saturday, the DeGraws' house burned down.

South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rick Petry clearly remembers when a large billboard advertising Big Bucks Bingo's Friday games and free food went up along U.S. 11. "We did notice that huge sign was right across the street from us, and that they were also advertising their Friday night games because that's the same night as ours.
