Guidi wins re-election as Hawthorne mayor by 110 votes

Im hoping either Guidi or Juarez can help our struggling business. So far, Juarez has proved to be the most helpful and concerned.

The city of Hawthorne has some of the strictest zoning rules in the area. Our business got cited $500 for business signs we posted on the side of our business. When we tried to get permits, they told us it was impossible.

Our business is located in a crevice of a plaza and we've been dependent on signs we have posted on the corner of two main streets. Ever since we were forced to take them down, we have had minimal traffic. We are close to closing down.

I messaged the entire city council, including Guidi and Juarez about keeping our signs. Guidi responded saying he'd forward it to the City Manager and Juarez responded by giving me his cell phone number and calling me every week to check up on the status of the situation. When I forwarded Juarez the email I received from the City Planner saying it would be impossible to obtain a waiver for the signs, Juarez stood up for our business and sent an email demanding a detailed report.

I just sent another email to Guidi. In this article it states his promise to help new businesses. I hope that is truly the case. I will update here again letting you know what the outcome is and maybe we'll see who really cares about businesses and the citizens of Hawthorne.

The used car lot (Repossess Auto) was not used as a polling place, not because the Mayor moved it.... but because Juarez and company complained that the dealership supported Guidi. So the polling place was moved at the last second to York Elementary School.

Juarez and team were so paranoid, they had the main polling place for North Hawthorne (and the majority of the latino voters) moved because they believed the auto dealership was involved in a conspiracy. It also had something do with the owners of the dealership being African-American.

Likely many latino voters did not make it to the polls because of this move - maybe costing Juarez the election.

Why isnt anybody talking about the Vargas brothers and the cops standing 10 feet from the Ramona Elementary polling place intimidating voters and electioneering??? They got caught red handed on camera! I saw it happen.

For a person that states he or she lives in Blue Springs, MO, sure knows a lot about a small town in California, known as Hawthorne. It was interesting to read your writing, for in my opinion, you asserted specifics about the city and the policemen, as if you personally live in the city or know the officers. It is evident there is a separation between the mayor and the police department and this is horrible practice. Peace is contagious and healthy, so the city and the police department need to come to some type of resolution in order to put an end to the friction and move forward. This may reduce crime and attract business to want to move in and operate in the City Of Good Neighbors! As far as police officers salary and assets, I sensed as if you may be a tad envious. I am certain cops salary would have to be supplemented by a spouse’s salary, investment, or inheritance to live in a prestigious city and/or drive an expensive vehicle. In my opinion, police officers do not get paid suffice to put their lives on the line, especially in a busy city such as Hawthorne with increasing crime rate. You used euphemisms, however, it was evident you are resentful and have a personal rage for police officers. This is precisely what needs to be addressed and dealt with so people can be at peace within and work together and not against one another. Remember, these are the men and women who protect and serve, so people like you and I can sleep without fear. It is not up to you, or I, to say how much their salary should be. How much are you worth? I infer it is none of my business. I’m sure you know your own worth and don’t expect or want anyone else that is not in your profession tell you otherwise. Don’t you think they deserve the same respect and privacy? Wishing Mayor Guidi, Hawthorne Police Department, and Hawthorne residents lots of peace and success!

Mayor Guido indicated some portions of the Thorne look like Beverly Hills. Everything is wonderful. Life is great in Hawthorne. The schools are lovely. There are green, wide-open spaces. The neighborhoods are quiet and parking is plentiful. Peace and tranquility prevail. This election has changed everything for the city of good neighbors.

The masses still asses.. Hawthorne people sure take time to tell a crook. Guido is almost out, is true he is a lame duck. He may be italian, but he is not Sicilian, he is a coward that will not hesitate to sale its own mother. Look at his "new friends" around is just new money and idiots that don't really know him yet. One that is back to where he came from, is the gay guy; Monteiro, and his wana be crony secretary Nadia Barrera, she supposed to keep Guido's job at the Hawthorne district. What now Guido? Check his time card. How can a full time employer of that district, can keep 3 jobs, with similar hours?

Why do you have to be so negative? It hurts me deeply to read words like "gay guy". I have known Alex Monteriro for many years. He is a fantastic boy and has always been there for me, night or day. Please treat him with respect and STOP it now.

My God! Your comments are soo nasty. The king of hate!! Mr. Monteiro is a very nice person that works very hard for many reputable organizations in Hawthorne. Why do you need to attack him? Mrs. Barrera is a nice well respected lady in the community. If you really have a concern go and use your real name and open an investigation about Mr. Guidi's work hours. Stop speculating and accusing people. But I know that people with such vile thoughts are always in the shadows smearing decent people. You should get a social life and not use your time being homophobic, racist, anti-woman, anti-working hard, and anti-legal elections results.

Thank you for your service, but I think your duties are too many to have time to do any real police work. You have your cooking gig, your Union gig, your multiple daily phone calls, your blog participation, your traveling, your internet surfing... if your are taking care of me also Oh boy! you are Supercop!!!This is my last exchange with you. Bruce, so he's there for you if you call him at 2 in the morning? He come over right away or do you go over?

Why is the HPOA boss getting on Topix boards and mixing it up with citizens? Maybe you need to resign, because this kind of behavior is very unprofessional. Its almost as unprofessional as your officers standing outside my polling place with two of your endorsed candidates illegally intimidating voters and electioneering.

Guidi never returned my email and Juarez did.

I emailed Juarez back and Im hoping he's working on a way to help us business owners. Im not sure anyone can count on Guidi. The loitering around the businesses in Hawthorne are ridiculous, I think Im going to talk to Danny (Juarez) about getting these drug dealers away from our businesses so we can actually conduct honest and safe businesses where people can come to.

If any of you are fed up with loiters and drug dealers hanging around selling drugs or doing whatever, then please contact the police. The more serious we make it the more we can fix our city.
