West Haverstraw barber charged with loansharking as organized crime probe continues
According to the charges, Anthony DePalma, 68, of 1 Demarest Avenue, who was known to his victims as "Harpo," squeezed dozens of debtors by charging them interest rates has high as 200 percent per year. He is charged with felony criminal usury for making street loans to people who apparently believe that their loan requests to banks or other legitimate lending institutions would be rejected.

Police Allege Funeral Home Manager Stole $400,000 from Clients, Business
The New York State Police and the Rockland County District Attorney's Office concluded a six-month investigation with the Haverstraw man's arrest Sept. 3. Police say that Cranston, as General Manager of T.J. McGowan and Sons Funeral Home in Haverstraw, deposited payments directly into in his personal bank account to the amount of more than $400,000 from unsuspecting customers for services conducted by the business.
