How old were you when you got your license, and what crazies did you do , and got away with it. Don't be sooooo cruel, have compassion for the family first. Get on a committee to help figure out what should be done, don't be judgemental, so quickly to put blame, everyone is a victim.

Just from those bare facts, my first thought was: Acura vs Nissan, 19 yr old driver hits Nissan , one life lost, another shattered.
The regulations need updating - it's not the 50's "Freedom of the road" anymore.
Let's grow up.

18 is legally adult, not 21. There's no law you could pass that will prevent car accidents except ban driving altogether.

Yeah where did it say it was the kid's fault. That's not fair to assume that.

YUP 18 is legally adult, so therefore the 19 yr old can face Vehicular Homicide just like an adult....

Do any of you even know where this is? it's in front of Paul's and Sandy's store, people pulling in and out of there all the time, and they always speed along that stretch of road. there have been several fatal accidents right at the bend in the road before the lake. Hell I was leaving town last night, saw all the cops out taking measurments, and people were speeding, crossing the double yellow and talking on their cell phones. It's a case of stupid people doing stupid shtuff. They didn't change the driving age when Renee killed herself (speeding), nor when Kelly killed herself (drunk Driving). no laws were Felicia was killed (hit by a drunk driver). So what makes you think the powers that be will do anything different with this case?

A spring Sunday afternoon in front of Paul's & Sandy's is a dangerous little piece of road. Very busy, lot's of people trying to make a left to go east. BTW- Kelly M, still miss her.

It wasn't the kids fault. I saw the scene. Don't place blame where it is undeserved.

Forget about "kids" needing more driver training. What everyone needs is more common courtesy.
Use your turn signals.
Don't cut in front of people.
If you miss your turn, don't slam on the brakes and try to make it with no warning - just turn around up ahead and come back.
etc...
If everyone takes a minute to think about 'the other guy' instead of themselves, our roads would be a much safer place to be.

You're right. I live about a mile away. The speed limit is about 25-35 mph through there but people fly though.

I will call up the cops, and tell them that all those measurements that they were taking (according to another post on this board), are a waste of time!!! We won't know until a ticket gets issued (and, even at THAT point, we won't know until this thing get dragged through court, as I am SURE someone will get sued!)

Lets add: don't drive 50 MPH in the left lane of Route [insert your favorite limited access highway number here], allowing people to pass you on the right.

The left lane is the passing lane, but it amazes me how often people drive slowly in the left lane. It's fine if you want to drive slowly, but have the common courtesy not to clog the passing lane. The roads will be safer for everyone.

Why are you being so mean? I heard that the woman actually had a heart attack... who is going to get sued for that? The bottom line is that it is a sad story anyway you look at it, but you can't place blame on a 19 year old kid just becasue he is 19, he was probably just trying to get his mom something nice for mothers day, and has to live with this now for the rest of his life. Be nice... Armchair Lawyer wrote: <quoted text> Ah, you saw the scene!?!? Don't blame this on Matthew until you know all of the details. This is a good kid who has never been in trouble before. His life is never going to be the same. Neither are the lives of the family and friends of the woman who died. This was a tragic car ACCIDENT.

No such thing as an ACCIDENT. Crashes happen because someone violated a motor vehicle law.
