Am I incorrect that the current budget deficiet is roughly $3 bill., and as a state we face another $3 bill. deficiet next year? Instead of drafting a budget that has significant budget cuts, Eddie wants to INCREASE spending in certain areas, INCREASE taxes and apply the rainy day fund. So when Eddie leaves in 2 years he can claim that:(1) he didn't cut social programs; (2) his administration didn't have the budget deficiets that his successors will have.

Raising taxes is not a solution..Cutting programs that are not crucial and stop the giveaways to spcial interest groups and organizations is the way to go.,.taxpayers are cutting back and the state govt should do likewise. Also , whats wrong with using some of the Lottery money to alleviate the problem..

Take $250 million from the House and Senate leadership slush fund, take another $750 million from Spendell's Rainy Day Fund and get another $750 million from the legislators' "Walkin Around Money" and you have $1.75 Billion for the general fund and the income tax increase would not be needed. Unfortunately it's easier for the politicians to tax the working people than to give up their ill-gotten funds. VOTE OUT any legislator who advocates a 16% increase in the income tax on the working people who already pay too much in gasoline and tobacco taxes compared to other states.

I for one will not pay this so called $156.00 State police tax, I think it's terrible. Get people that can work off of welfare, this is a very big part of the problem. As I was reading one post, a person had said to get welfare bums out even if it's to clean up the trash on the sides of the roads. I agree with this, pay them minimum wage, and get them off the system. And also they will have to pay taxes for a change. I know that there are indeed some people that need it, some of these families just keep popping out babies just for more food stamps and cash assistance. This has got to stop, I have noticed also that everyday now for the last 2 weeks that so many political people have been in alot of trouble, from affairs to stalking, and using tax payers money for their own vacations.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I guess the best way to sum it up is "I am Not willing to share my wealth, but I AM willing to share my work ethic"

Both sides are going to have to put partisanship aside and get to work on a compromise. Neither side can or will be able to have it all their way. The one part of the story that seems to be overlooked by just about everyone in this whole budget impase nmess is the plight of the majority of state employees whose pay comes from sources funded nby the budget - NO BUDGET, NO PAY. Yes, that's right, I and my fellow state employees are facing "payless paydays" foe as long as the impasse lasts! How many weeks (or months) can any of you go without getting a paycheck while still being required to work full time? Then, when a budget is passed, state workers will get all the back wages in a lump sum payment that will be taxed at a much higher rate than a normal paycheck! Irregardless of the outcome of the budget negotiations - higher taxes, cut services - state workers have already been screwed!

I love the drama dribbled forth to the media by the Democrats in government. They're masters at describing an impending "doom and gloom" scenario if we don't agree with their push to raise taxes and waste more of our hard-earned dollars. Mutants.
