Two miles off of Atlantic Beach, Nassau County Marine Bureau police officers arrested a Harbor Isle, NY man for criminal possession of a weapon on June 10 at 2:10 p.m. Marine bureau officers and the Coast Guard responded to a 911 call that came in about a boat in distress possibly shooting off flares, police said.

A Harbor Isle man faces a weapons charge after marine officers and U.S. Coast Guard personnel learned he had fired an assault rifle two miles off Atlantic Beach on Friday, police said.

A Harbor Isle man was arrested on Friday for criminal possession of a weapon after he apparently fired a rifle into the ocean while on his sailboat about two miles off the coast of Atlantic Beach, police said.

Long Beach Road is considered Island Park's "downtown." With Smart Growth principles, it could become a vibrant center for business and recreation, as well as a pedestrian thoroughfare from Masone Beach to waterfront restaurants.
