A Vinton County man convicted of trying to rob a woman at knifepoint this past summer was sentenced on Wednesday to eight years in prison.

While many area children spent the summer relaxing, a small group of students learned about a variety of subjects through hands-on exploration during Kid's College, a special camp held in July at the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College.

At about 5:55 a.m. Wednesday, the McArthur and Hamden fire departments responded to 59973 U.S. Highway 50 in McArthur on a report of a fire.

The father-in-law of a Hocking County mother of three who was abducted, strangled and left in a septic tank pleaded not guilty this morning to aggravated murder and other charges in her death.
