Perhaps the town should budget some money for this event next year ? So many people come out and enjoy the fireworks and it really has become a tradition. The volunteer firefighters work year round at planning and raising funds. These people work their tails off and I think many people have no idea or just take it for granted ! Hats off to the Hamden Volunteer Firefighters for handling the entire event! I think if the town would budget just $25,000 it would be an enormous help and keep this great event alive for years to come.

Stop wasting the money. As long as the shows go on people will be inclined to buy fireworks at the local stores and and cause neighborhood rage. Ban fireworks all together, noise, polution, injuries, global warming and total disrespect for your neighbor is all that comes from a fireworks display.

I agree they do a great job and are great firefighters who put their life on the line for line us Maybe if the town and the mayor stopped spending money on keeping his friends in jobs they don’t belong in and don’t know how to do we can have the money needed for this display or maybe the mayor can stop running up the gas bill the town pays for in his Private car

First of all, if you ban the shows all together, more people will be inclined to run up to New Hampshire and buy their own fireworks. It would only increase the "home" shows, not decrease it. Secondly, global warming? Are you kidding? Too funny. Lastly, let me guess....you own the house on the street that gets egged every Halloween aren't you? I thought so.

Was this addressed on a Matlock episode you watched? Lets ban Christmas Carolers next. They make alot of noise, can slip on the ice and be injured and can be totally disrespectful to neighbors like you that are in bed at 6pm. Banning fireworks is unamerican. It's Independence Day, a chance to celebrate the fact we are not sipping tea and hailing the queen.

Get a life and stop acting like a Connecticut politician. Stop trying to dictate the moral and ethical behavior of your fellow citizens!!!

I enjoy the hamden fireworks and go every year. But as high as the taxes are in town, I'd rather see the display scaled-down somewhat that have the town pick up the tab.

why do we need fireworks anyway? If you think it helps you celebrate, are you on glue? sure they ar nice to look at once in a while, but those are being shot off by "professionals". any fireworks sold at the local street market are just fire starters. If I never saw another firework show I would still be American and somewhat proud. I would like it better if the money spent on colorful bombs was spent on the students of our state, so that maybe more than 60% would graduate High school. Humans are too into toys and that alone makes them morons.

And just as loud as a firecracker is a police siren and a baby crying. Maybe we should throw every police car and child off of a cliff so that little mister squirrel doesn't ever have to hear them again and get lost. You have to be kidding me. I think we should next make sure there is never another crack of thunder. If only this were really true I would have a sure "fire" way to keep my neighbors mangy cats from poopin' in my flowerbeds. What a glorious display I would put on for that.

Money won't help kids graduate, involved parents do. And what about the "somewhat" proud to be an American comment? You must have a communist flag hanging in your garage. My family has served in the military since the Revolutionary war protecting your freedom to even make stupid comments like that.

We pay enough taxes in Hamden. I have lived there for 54 years. If Hamden can't afford the fireworks, don't have them. I, for one, am not paying any money to help the town put on a display after they hiked our property taxes with the reassesment at the height of the housing boom. They also raised the mill rate when historically when there is a reassesment the mill rate would go down. I need my money for food, heating oil, gas, taxes etc. I am going to vollentarily give money for a town display when they tax me to death? I don't think so. Let the firemen and poice contribute. they all make the highest salaries list in the town. Add all the high priced educators too.

Gee, LJW, BBJ, JON, KUDU, get a life. The 4th of July is a day to celebrate with family, friends, and neighbors, you forget all your troubles for a while and have a good time. Professionals put on the town displays. When me moved to West Haven in 1991 the fire fighters went door to door to raise money for the fireworks because the budget was in the toilet again, but I was willing to give a few bucks because I always liked West Haven's fireworks, times are tough for everyone.

Wait we’re missing one more group…the childless.“Let’s increase the school budget yet I don’t have kids”…”what will they take from my childless life next?” This is nothing more then a bunch of people whining and not attempting to look for a solution. It is not much different then what is going on in Milford right now and their Oyster Festival. The town almost wasn’t going to have it because they couldn’t come up with 26K to hire the Police. No not the band…Foghat is the headliner this year. The town can’t afford its own police force? See the thing with these events is it’s really not put on by your “town” it’s generally funded by a sponsor, which Milford’s OF does not seem to have at this point. So we can point the finger at our town, but it has nothing to do with raising your taxes and taking things away from you. To my knowledge historically these events such as Oyster and Strawberry fests and Fireworks displays had a sponsor and they paid for it. Kind of like Foxboro stadium really being Gillett Stadium. Passing the hat around is fine, but passing it to your residents might be the wrong direction in this case. The Royal Bank of Scotland is picking up the tab for Stamford’s fireworks display and I’m sure they will get a plug here and there but even if they aren’t technically the sponsor of this it is the correct direction your town should be looking for it’s donations. Many of these companies get tremendous tax breaks to be located in your town, about time they give a little back.

We can not even enjoy the Good Ole American tradition any longer.... Wake up government..... You need to do something about these skyrocketing energy prices.... Hey Dick, you were soooooo concerned when a box of cereal hit $5.00, what are you doing about this ? Selfish.
