richinrio wrote: Does anyone ever " man up " and just admit they are guilty anymore? Do defense attorneys make a deal with their clients to plead not guilty so they can bill the State of California for as much as they can while the case drags on....and on...and on? Do they promise to give a percentage of their billings back to the clients family? You know...' listen, if you plead guilty, you are done. BUT...plead not guilty and let me drag this out for a few years and earn a bunch of money from the State, and I'll see to it that 15% of my earning go to your ( daughter, son, mother etc...). I just wish from time to time these people who are guilty as can be would stop this charade of claiming they are not responsible. But then I wake-up and realize that a person like this piece of trash would not know responsibility if it hit her head-on on highway 1. I always wondered about this myself! I read something not long ago that it's not about the actual crime its about the evidence. If there isn't enough evidence to prosecute people can actually get off! Look at OJ!

This lady has done this twice already. She should be locked up and no parole. Three strikes and you are done! What is going to happen if she gets behind the wheel again? I agree with Richinrio "Man Up" you caused the accident no else was driving!

When I stopped to listen to what they were upset about it was that their goverment handout of money (GA, foodstamps, SSI, etc.) was late, or delayed or the paperwork was messed up, or the staff were jerks for screwing up. We have totally set the homeless up so they can stay that way. Now we have to live with the consequences. I'm with you. Let's use this tragedy to argue for some indirectly related political point of view, instead of actually focusing on preventing DUI.

My only brother was killed in 1983 by a drunk driver in Wisconsin - that driver was a drunk who also had two previous drunk driving convictions. I can't express the devastation it caused members of my family - especially my mother. Please, please put this Chinn woman away for life before she causes more death and destruction.

I beleive this is the reason why the rest of us pay in to it but there sure as hell won't be any left by the time we retire! My Mom is 78 & still works. SS is a joke for those who earned it.

I can't believe her defense lawyer tried to argue that her bail should be lower. "She is homeless and collects SSI." LOL, too funny! Bail is not set on a sliding scale based on how you can pay it. It is set based on how much of a finical hit you are not willing to take if you skip out on court. And if you have nothing like this chick, then you have nothing to loose. She is a definite flight risk, her bail should be the maximum.

Judge Robert Atack is a consummate professional jurist.
His integrity is beyond question. He will ensure a fair trial for this "suspect" and no doubt sentence her to a long term in prison for which she will certainly deserve if found guilty.
The A.D.A., Ms. Rizzeri, is a competent and experienced trial attorney.
My condolences to the victims' families.
Sincerely,
Steve Carr, retired Santa Cruz County Deputy Sheriff and former Santa Cruz City Police Officer

Seeing as the taxpayers are footing her bill - 3 squares a day, housing (jail) and an attorney. I think gov't should suspend her SSI until she's proven innocent (not)- and if she lands in prison, NO SSI. As it is she's going to cost us $40,000.00/yr + if she's tossed in jail - for how many years...life? All too stoopid as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, well if she's homeless...then I guess she should be glad she has a home now with 3 square meals and a bed.

It is very strange that people like I was who want to just take responsibility and be done with it are not allowed too--I guess the court wants to make money off epople anyway they can....As to this lady, she is just worthless and I wouldnt get your hopes up when it comes to her doing the right thing and pleading guilty! If she thought it was okay to drive in that condition then she probably doesnt even grasp that killing two people wasnt okay either. really interesting if this is true.

SSI, so she's never worked in her life? SSI is for people that have never held a job--it's not like SSD (Soc. Sec. Disability), which does come out of taxes paid by the individual before you get your 'earned' check. That's a bunch of crap. I know ex-junkies who are are SSI; I guess they're considered disabled cuz they have a 'disease.' What about the people who are really disabled & have to jump through hoops to get any kind of help. It's a bunch of bull.

My stomach turns everytime I read or hear about an accident between Davenport and Wilder Ranch. Most likely its caused by a Drunk Driver. I really do HOPE the D.A will make an example out of her! Life in prison is only a slap on her hand.

The DA, court, etc. can make a considerable amount of money by dragging out this trial. If she plead guilty right away, they'd lose out on a lot. Not that she actually was responsible enough to *want* to plead guilty, but even if she had the DA would have shot it down.
