A string of tornadoes this morning killed a man in Scott, destroyed a Whiteville church and damaged homes in a Crowley-area subdivision.

According to Colonel Kirk J. Frith with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Department, a tornado touched down in the Gueydan area off LA.

A tornado destroyed St. Peters Resurrection Catholic Church in Whiteville only hours before the Christmas Mass,l adding to a toll that already included a reported fatality in Scott and major damage to homes in a Crowley-area subdivision.

A tornado reportedly touched down in Gueydan, causing severe damage to two homes and at least one injury, according to the Gueydan Police Department.
