A woman is accused of reporting a fake robbery outside a Grifton store to cover up damage she did to a car.

The wreck happened at about 8:15 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Marvin Taylor Road and East Hanrahan Road in Grifton, according to dispatchers.

The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office released the names late Thursday afternoon, but a family friend at the scene confirmed the identity of the couple.

Two people are dead as a result of a house fire in Grifton. Nine fire trucks from four departments responded to a 911 call at 8:53 a.m. Thursday, with Hugo Volunteer Fire Department receiving word en route that two people may have been in the structure.

A Lenoir County couple, married for more than 60 years, was killed in a mobile home fire Thursday morning, according to family friends.

Grifton native Brenda Sasser opened the gift store with a wide variety of items on April 8 at the Kinston Plaza Shopping Center.
